1 Day Rainbow Mountain

HIKING DIFFICULTY LEVEL

The trek to Rainbow Mountain is graded on a scale from 1 to 4, with:

Itinerary

Early at 4:00 am, our tour to Rainbow Mountain begins with the pick-up from your respective hotel by our tourist transportation. We then head southeast of Cusco on a journey of approximately 2 hours, passing through the towns of Andahuaylillas and Cusipata (where we’ll make a brief stop for breakfast), and then Checacupe Pitumarca before reaching Kayrawiri (3800 meters above sea level). From Kayrawiri, we’ll have another hour in tourist transportation until we reach the starting point of the hike at 4430 meters above sea level.

Before starting the hike, our guide will give us a brief informative talk. We’ll begin our hike towards Rainbow Mountain, which will last for 1 hour and 40 minutes, depending on the pace of the walk. Along the way, we’ll enjoy spectacular panoramic views of mountains, lagoons, and the Vilcanota mountain range, surrounded by the majestic Ausangate snow-capped peak. We’ll also have the chance to observe South American camelids such as llamas, guanacos, and alpacas.

When we reach the summit of Rainbow Mountain, we’ll have the opportunity to appreciate and glimpse the wonderful landscape surrounding Vinicunca Mountain. After visiting and exploring Rainbow Mountain, we return along the same path with a descent of approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes until we reach Kayrawiri, where we take our tourist transportation back to Cusipata for lunch. After lunch, we continue for 2 hours in our tourist transportation until we return to Cusco around 2:30 to 3:00 pm.
