Frecuendly asked questions
  • How difficult is the hike to Rainbow Mountain?
The hike is considered moderate to challenging due to the high altitude. The trail itself is not too steep, but the lack of oxygen at 5,000 meters (16,400 feet) can make it more difficult. It is recommended to be in good physical condition and acclimatized to the altitude before attempting the trek.
  • Can I rent a horse if I have difficulty hiking?
Yes, horses are available for rent at the starting point of the hike. They can take you most of the way up, but the final stretch to the summit must be done on foot. Prices vary and are negotiated directly with local horse owners.
  • What is the best time of year to visit Rainbow Mountain?
The best time to visit is during the dry season, from April to October, when the weather is more stable, and there is less chance of rain or snow. The wet season (November to March) can bring cloudy conditions, making it harder to see the vibrant colors of the mountain.
  • What should I do to prepare for the altitude?
It is recommended to spend at least 2-3 days in Cusco or another high-altitude location before attempting the hike. Staying hydrated, avoiding heavy meals, and drinking coca tea can help reduce the effects of altitude sickness. If needed, you can also bring altitude sickness medication.
  • What is included in the tour package?
The tour includes hotel pickup, private transportation, breakfast and lunch, a professional guide, entrance fees, and a first aid kit with an emergency oxygen bottle. Personal expenses, tips, and optional horse rentals are not included.
